Pinterest Video Downloads: 20 Short Answers to the Questions We Get Most

•7 min read•KeepPin Team

Most questions that reach us through the contact page are variations on the same twenty. This page answers each one in a few sentences and points to the article that goes deeper, so you can get unstuck quickly and read further only when you need to.

Cost, accounts and quality

Is KeepPin really free?

Yes. There is no paid tier, no daily cap and no watermark added to anything you save. Downloads are limited per minute to stop automated abuse, but a person saving pins by hand does not notice that. The full workflow, from copying a link to finding the file on your device, is in the complete guide to saving Pinterest videos.

Do I need an account or an app?

No. KeepPin runs in the browser you already have, on a phone, tablet or computer, and never asks you to sign in to anything. You do not need a Pinterest account either, because KeepPin only resolves pins that are already public. The reasons behind that design are covered in how KeepPin works without storing anything.

What quality will the video be?

You get an MP4 at the resolution Pinterest stores for that pin, which is commonly 720p. Higher resolutions exist only when the creator uploaded them, and no downloader can add pixels that were never there. What resolution Pinterest videos really are explains how to read the true dimensions of a file.

Will there be a watermark?

No. Pinterest does not burn watermarks into its video files; the overlays you see are part of the app's interface. Because KeepPin fetches the stored file itself rather than re-recording the screen, the saved video is clean. Why a properly downloaded Pinterest video has no watermark covers how to confirm a file is untouched.

Does KeepPin keep a copy of what I download?

No. The file streams from Pinterest's content network through to your browser, and nothing is written to KeepPin's servers. Pasted links are not logged either. The three-step design behind that is described in the privacy and no-storage article and in the privacy policy.

Devices

How do I save a video on an iPhone or iPad?

Tap share on the pin, choose copy link, open KeepPin in Safari, paste and download. The file lands in the Files app by default and can be moved to Photos from there. Each step, including the common Safari snags, is in saving Pinterest videos on iPhone and iPad.

How do I save a video on Android?

The same idea: copy the link from the share sheet, paste it into KeepPin in your browser and tap download. The file goes to your Downloads folder, and most gallery apps pick it up automatically. Keeping Pinterest videos on an Android phone covers permissions, data saver and SD cards.

What about a Mac or Windows PC?

Copy the pin's address from the browser bar, paste it into KeepPin and click download. No software is installed; the MP4 opens in the media player that ships with your system. The Mac and Windows guide adds keyboard shortcuts and a tidy two-window routine.

Other kinds of pins

Can I save images, not just videos?

Yes. The image downloader returns the original upload rather than one of the scaled previews Pinterest shows in the feed, so you get the full pixel dimensions. Pinterest also offers its own built-in image download. The differences are explained in saving Pinterest images at full resolution.

Can I save GIFs and animated pins?

Yes, with a caveat. Some animated pins are true GIF files, and others are silent MP4s that Pinterest plays on a loop. The GIF downloader gives you whichever Pinterest actually stores, and saving Pinterest GIFs and animated pins shows how to tell them apart.

Do Idea Pins work?

Mostly. An Idea Pin is a sequence of pages, and each page may be a video or an image. KeepPin can fetch the media on those pages, but a multi-page pin does not become a single stitched file. See Idea Pins versus video pins for what you get from each type.

Links and domains

Can I paste a pin.it link?

Yes. The short links that the Pinterest app puts in the share sheet are expanded automatically before parsing, so you do not need to open them first. If you prefer to keep the long form for your notes, what pin.it links are shows how to expand one by hand.

Does it matter if the link is pinterest.de, .co.uk or .jp?

No. Every country domain serves the same pin under the same ID, and only the language of the page changes. KeepPin recognises all of them. Pinterest country domains and downloads explains why the pin ID is the only part that matters.

When something goes wrong

Why can't I download a pin from a secret board?

Because KeepPin sees Pinterest the way a logged-out visitor does. Secret boards, private accounts, login-only content and deleted pins are invisible from that position, and no downloader can reach them. Why you can't download pins from secret boards lists what you can do with your own private pins instead.

The download link says it expired. What now?

Paste the pin URL again. Download links are signed and stop working after five minutes so they cannot be shared or hotlinked permanently, but the pin itself never expires. The reasoning is in why KeepPin links last five minutes.

The video plays in the browser instead of downloading.

That happens when a direct media link is opened rather than KeepPin's download link, which tells the browser to save the file. If it still plays inline, long-press or right-click the player and choose the save option. The per-platform fixes are in video opens in the browser instead of downloading.

My saved video has no sound.

Check the pin in the Pinterest app with the volume up. Many pins are uploaded muted, and animated pins stored as MP4 never had an audio track to begin with. Pinterest video has no sound shows how to confirm whether the file contains audio. For any other failure, start with the nine causes of a failed download.

Rules and rights

Is it legal to download Pinterest videos?

Saving a public video for your own reference is generally treated very differently from republishing it, and copyright stays with the creator in both cases. What you do with the file afterwards is the part that matters. Is it legal to download Pinterest videos separates the act of saving from the question of reuse.

How should I credit the creator?

Name them, link back to the original pin or profile, and do not present the work as your own. Credit is the baseline, not a licence, so ask before reposting. How to credit a Pinterest creator has wording you can copy.

I'm a creator and someone reposted my work. What can I do?

File a DMCA notice with Pinterest through its own process, and if the pin was reached through KeepPin, email [email protected] so the URL can be blocked. Valid notices are answered within 48 hours. The DMCA guide for Pinterest creators and our DMCA policy explain what a valid notice contains.

Is there a browser extension?

Not yet. A Chrome and Edge extension is in development and has not been released, so any extension using the KeepPin name today is not ours. Until it ships, the web downloader covers the same need. What's coming for Chrome and Edge describes the plan and the current status.
