Copyright takedown requests and how we handle them
Last Updated: November 2025
KeepPin respects the rights of people who create the content shared on Pinterest. This page explains what KeepPin does and does not do with that content, how a rights holder can send us a takedown notice, and exactly what happens after we receive one.
1. Where We Stand on Copyright
KeepPin is a tool, not a library. It fetches a publicly visible pin on a user's request and passes the file to that user. We do not encourage anyone to save content they have no right to keep, and we say so on every page of the site.
Our commitments
- • We tell users clearly that downloading does not transfer ownership
- • We provide a dedicated email address for copyright complaints
- • We reply to every complete notice within 48 hours
- • We block specific pin URLs from KeepPin when a valid notice is upheld
2. How KeepPin Handles Content
Because it affects what we can and cannot do about a complaint, here is how the service works:
Nothing is stored
KeepPin keeps no videos, images or GIFs on its servers. There is no archive, cache or catalogue of downloadable files.
Every request is live
When a user pastes a link, KeepPin resolves the source file at that moment and streams it from Pinterest's servers to the user's device.
We do not publish content
KeepPin neither uploads to Pinterest nor curates what appears there. The content a user downloads was already public on Pinterest before the request.
Removal happens at the source
Because the file lives on Pinterest, only Pinterest can take it down. Pinterest maintains its own copyright reporting process, and rights holders should use it alongside any notice sent to us.
3. Sending a Takedown Notice
If you own a copyrighted work, or act for someone who does, and believe KeepPin is being used to download it without permission, email us. We cannot delete the pin from Pinterest, but we can and will block it from KeepPin.
What your notice must contain
- 1. Your name, postal address, telephone number and email address
- 2. A description of the copyrighted work, or a link to where it is legitimately published
- 3. The exact Pinterest pin URL(s) you want blocked
- 4. A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised by the owner, their agent or the law
- 5. A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them
- 6. Your physical or electronic signature
Email your notice to [email protected] with the subject line "DMCA Takedown Notice"
4. What Happens After We Receive It
Our handling process:
- • Within 48 hours we acknowledge receipt and check the notice is complete
- • If anything is missing we tell you exactly what, so you can resend
- • Valid notices result in the listed pin URLs being blocked from KeepPin
- • We keep a record of the notice and the action taken
- • Where the law requires it, we notify affected parties
5. Counter-Notification
If a pin was blocked on the basis of a notice you believe is mistaken, or which misidentifies your content, you may send a counter-notice.
What a counter-notice must contain
- 1. Your name, address, phone number and email
- 2. The pin URL(s) that were blocked
- 3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you believe the block resulted from error or misidentification
- 4. Consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district, or, if outside the United States, any district where KeepPin may be found
- 5. Your physical or electronic signature
Email counter-notices to [email protected] with the subject line "DMCA Counter-Notice"
6. Repeat Infringement
KeepPin acts against repeated misuse:
- • Pin URLs subject to upheld notices stay blocked
- • Where a pattern of abuse can be identified, we restrict access to the service
- • We may add technical safeguards against automated or systematic misuse
- • We cooperate with law enforcement when legally required to
7. Please Note
A few points worth understanding before you write to us:
- • This page is information, not legal advice
- • We cannot judge whether a particular use is fair use
- • Copyright rules differ between countries
- • Knowingly sending a false notice can make you liable for damages
- • For complex situations, consult a lawyer
8. Copyright Contact
All copyright correspondence goes to our designated agent:
